Codrina and Liviu’s Engagement, The Distillery District, Toronto

It was fun planning this photo session with Codrina and Liviu. They wanted a bit of everything. A bit of the financial district, with perhaps a church, a park and (time permitting) a fountain night shot if at all possible. All with a pinch of Distillery. That sounds like a lot but we knew it’s was  also going to be a lot of fun executing it as well.

Toronto is a great city to try and pull all of that. Within the Downtown’s core there are nice green spaces, old churches and new buildings, plenty of opportunity for street shooting and characters like this guy who was playing an instrument made out of a converted cigar box, with 3 strings which reminded me of Seasick Steve and his old arsenal of odd looking guitars. He was incredibly nice and allowed us to shoot a few frames while he was doing a bit of a blues solo. He was quite good actually.

Liviu mentioned he was a bit camera shy and indeed he was … for a few seconds… then he could not stop smiling for the whole duration of the engagement. It was a very pleasant evening of shooting down to the gorgeous warm sundown light.

Here is a snippet, enjoy!

Raluca and Andrei Engagement, Brasov, Romania

We’re calling this time from Romania with a very special couple Raluca and Andrei. This is a family thing. Andrei is my nephew and an unbelievable lucky guy to find his perfect half in Raluca. Their story is not unlike mine and Sandra’s, they were friends brought along as “cover” on a Valentine’s Day date more than 3 years ago and they’ve been inseparable ever since. Valentine’s Day, prefect strangers hitting it off… as love stories go it can’t get any better than this.

So here we are, in the beautiful city of Brasov, Romania, shooting their engagement along the old city core. We even got on Rope Street which is said to be the narrowest street in Europe. Have a look at the last photo if you don’t believe it…

Eva and Mark Engagement, Edward Gardens, Toronto.

Eva and Mark have been together longer than some people have been married, 12 years. While looking for a photographer for their next year wedding, Eva stumbled on our blog and was intrigued by our trial offer, Several emails later we were all set up to go for an engagement photo session in Edward Gardens while also praying for decent weather as this summer so far is one of the coldest and wettest in my recent memory. Our prayers were answered and we were fortunate to have a superb day.

The following are a just a few pictures highlights from the session.

Enjoy!

Melissa and Ben's Engagement, Jackson's Point, ON.

We’ve never been to Jackson’s Point before so when Melissa and Ben proposed us to come up there for their Engagement pictures, we jumped on the opportunity. They wanted the lake and the rocks in their photos with perhaps a sunset thrown in for good measure. The atmosphere was perhaps a bit hazy and murky but in the end we managed to get our sunset.

Here are a few of our favorite shots.

Enjoy!

Richelle and Noel Engagement Session, Shepperd's Bush, Aurora, ON

When we first met with Richelle and Noel they were set on having a fall engagement session featuring all of those beautiful colors. Shepperd’s Bush is about the perfect area, every fall it looks like it is literally on fire. It’s also quite big, peaceful and off the beaten path, the ideal setting for an intimate engagement photo session. We finished up the session on the beautiful grounds of Our Lady of Grace’s Shrine and Monastery.

The nicest colour in the whole session must be however the colour of Richelle’s eyes. A single look into those eyes and you know why Noel is so hopelessly lost in them.

Here are a few of our favourite shots. Enjoy.

Amanda and Steve Engagement Photos, Roundhouse, Downtown Toronto, ON

Steve loves the City and wanted to have it featured in his engagement pictures. He is also very fond of one particular mural at the Roundhouse which was featured a few times in our blog so the planned shooting location in the Distillery District became all of the sudden impractical … Toronto is a great city, one where Robocop might quietly line up for a GO train ticket in Union Station and  Glenn Gould   equally quietly greets everyone seating on his bench in front of CBC headquarters, just to mention the lesser known attractions.

Here are a few highlights of this session.

Enjoy!

Robin and Terry Engagement Photo Session, Distillery District, Toronto

It has been a while since we had an engagement photo shoot in the Distillery District and, on this particular morning the place was absolutely packed. Arriving a bit early, Sandra and I quickly scouted the place for all the changes that happened since last time – a year is a very long time in a busy city like Toronto.  Remember the nice CN Tower skyline shot from The Esplanade and featured  here  ? Gone ! Condos are going up like mushrooms in the Downtown Lakeshore core and construction cranes are poking up the sky in the most unexpected spots. Soon, tall buildings will take their place, forever altering the clean skyline backdrop we enjoyed from the Parliament Park.

It’s always fun shooting in the Distillery. There’s always a nice corner one can relax, enjoy the company of others, photography or not, and this day was no different. The following pictures try to convey that feeling…

Enjoy!

Rizelle and Wesley Engagement Photo Session, Toronto Centre Island, ON

Sandra and I have been living in the GTA for the past 17 years but for whatever reason we never went to Toronto Island. We had to break the ice at some point and get to see for ourselves the famous, postcard perfect, Toronto Downtown city line as seen from Center Island. The evening was gorgeous, wispy pink clouds adorned the sunset and of course, but with us being busy shooting this Engagement session pretty much everywhere else on the island, by the time the sunset came, all the good, comfortable spots on the North shore were taken… Not discouraged by the army of photographers solidly entrenched in their spots with their  tripods, we scouted a thin, little limb extending  into the lake only the geese and mallards seemed to be using and set camp there to patiently wait for the opportune moment to shoot. We weren’t disappointed.

We’d like to thank Rizelle and Wesley for being such troopers. Without their patience the last photos you will see in this album would not have been possible. The following is a snippet of that evening

Enjoy!

Brenna and Jordan,Farm Engagement Session, Whitchurch-Stouffville, ON.

When we met Brenna and Jordan they mentioned they love nature, the outdoors and would love to have the engagement on a farm instead of a normal city/urban/ park setting. We’ve been graciously allowed to use a farm up in Whitchurch-Stouffville on our engagement photo session for a whole late afternoon-evening and we went all out exploring all the nooks and crannies, having hay fights and casually strolling thru corn fields at sunset, all underlined by Brenna’s contagious laughter . Not too bad for a Friday evening 🙂 …

This is how it all went. Enjoy!

Heba and Phil Engagement Photo Session, Unionville, ON

This was one engagement photo session that almost did not happen. We had postponed it already one week once due to weather conditions and as Sandra and I were making our way to Unionville’s old train station, our meeting point with Heba and Phil, we were watching in horror the sky getting darker and turning green. Heba’s texts were NOT reassuring in the slightest “Umm… guys… we’re driving thru hail here…” to which we were responding “We prayed for fair weather… did you??? 🙂 “.  With their wedding approaching rapidly we were running out of options so we decided to wait it out and see if the cloud cover will clear. It did. Thank God, Thank Heavens!

Heba and Phil prepared Edwardian period costumes for this engagement photo session and Unionville provided us with the perfect backdrop.

Here are a few shots we liked. Enjoy!
